Team Alpha Male featherweight Josh Emmett will face Shane Burgos at the UFC’s planned event for June 20.
ESPN was first to report the news. Burgos later confirmed the fight on social media.
Emmett (15-2) has seen two bouts scrapped this year so far. Back in January, he was expected to take on Arnold Allen, but dropped out of the fight. In May, the plan was for Emmett to fight Edson Barboza. The coronavirus pandemic nixed that fight, however. Barboza returned last week, against Dan Ige.
When he enters the octagon against Burgos, Emmett will have something of a head of steam however. He’s won two straight, most recently against Mirsad Bektic last July. The 11-month layoff will be nothing new, as the Phoenix-born fighter was out just over a year after suffering facial fractures following a fight with Jeremy Stephens in 2018.
Shane Burgos (13-1) has also put together a nice little win streak. He’s come out with his hand raised in his last three visits to the octagon. In his last outing, last November at UFC 244, he finished Makwan Amirkhani via TKO. Prior to that, he took home a split decision win against popular featherweight Cub Swanson.
The UFC’s June 20 event does not yet have a location. However, Nevada is once again in the running. The UFC Apex is the destination should the Nevada Athletic Commission rule on May 27 that combat sports in the state can resume.
