Josh Emmett has always been a dark horse contender to win the featherweight championship. Emmett is most likely the hardest puncher in the division. If he lands his opponent is going to sleep like we’ve seen his last four fights.
Emmett has fought since July 13, 2019, when he won via TKO against Mirsad Bektić and received the performance of the night. He was scheduled to fight against Arnold Allen on January 25, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 166, however, he had to pull out due to injury.
There were rumors floating around that he would return against Edson Barboza on May 2, 2020, but according to Emmett it was just rumored.
“His name came up and they[the UFC] were talking about me potentially fight him and I said, of course, I’ll fight anyone, but they were just trying to renegotiate my contract,” Emmett said. “But just the rumor being out there that I was fighting May 2nd, I felt bad because I was like I’m not fighting, I won’t be there.”
Emmett said he would be down to fight on “fight island” he just needs some time to train and get the weight off.
“I just can’t take a fight on two-week notice, I mean if it was at 155 sure but I can’t do 145 on a two-three week notice,” Emmett said.
