UFC 269: Josh Emmett Dedicates His Win To His Family
By Eddie Law
Las Vegas, NV – After a challenging couple of years in his professional and personal lives UFC featherweight Josh Emmett returned at UFC 269 more motivated than ever.
“Yeah definitely motivated me more. Instead of just me coming back and making my return I wanted to go out and I wanted to dedicate this to my family. To the Emmetts, the Lowry’s, my mom. Just everything that we went through it’s just…I dedicate this to them and I can’t be more grateful for them and I wanted to make them proud. Just get a big win for all of us,” Emmett said to the media in his post-fight scrum.
Emmett (17-2) scored a unanimous decision victory over Dan Ige (15-5) as the featured prelim of UFC 269 on Saturday night.
Fans and fighter alike expected a brawl between Emmett and Ige who both have a history of very intense fights where they put their wills against their opponent. The fight ended up being a lot more technical than most expected.
“I’m not tired, I didn’t really take too much damage so it’s always a good thing not to get into absolute car wrecks. So I’m happy about that but I’m always trying to please the crowd and Dana and the matchmakers. Yeah it was good I just had to get my timing back. I felt good. I have to watch the fight because I play it out different in my head until I watch it.”
As for what is next for Emmett, specially coming off what he’s gone through recently, it’s all about bigger fights.
“I want to fight people towards the top. I’m one of the only few that hasn’t got a fight the top guys in the world. Everyone else in front of me has kind of fought each other so I definitely want my shot, I want my opportunity. I think I can hang with those guys and I just need to get back in the gym and stay active and just keep improving.”
