Calvin Kattar vs. Josh Emmett Headlines UFC Austin On June 18

A massive potential featherweight championship-eliminator between contenders, Calvin Kattar, and Josh Emmett will take main event honors on June 18. at UFC Austin – with the Octagon set to land at the Frank Edwin Center in Austin, Texas.


Calvin Kattar, who returned to the Octagon for the first time in a year back in January in the main event of UFC Vegas 46 – rebounded from a crushing loss to former featherweight champion, Max Holloway with a dominant and damaging five round win of his own against Giga Chikadze.

For Emmett, the surging knockout artist had been sidelined through knee injuries since June of 2020, returning last December in a UFC 269 outing against Dan Ige – landing a unanimous decision win at the T-Mobile Arena. All Access MMA reporter, Meni Mayer was first to report the main event outing between Kattar and Emmett.


Prior to his victory against Georgian striking ace, Chikadze in January, Kattar had been sidelined since the year prior – suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss to former champion, Holloway on ‘Fight Island’ at UFC on ABC 1.


The heavy defeat snapped a run of two victories for Kattar, who had defeated promotional alum, Jeremy Stephens, and landed a unanimous decision victory over the above mentioned common-foe, Ige in Abu Dhabi, UAE.


In other promotional wins, Calvin Kattar, who plys his trade under the tutelage of Tyson Chartier, has bested former title challenger, Ricardo Lamas, as well as Chris Fishgold, Shane Burgos, and Andre Fili.


17-2 as a professional, Phoenix veteran, Emmett added Ige to an impressive streak of recent, which has seen the 37-year-old compile a four-fight winning streak.


As part of his run, Emmett, who is revered as one of the heaviest hitters at the featherweight limit, has defeated the above mentioned, Burgos, Mirsad Bektic, and Michael Johnson. In a spectacular featherweight division return, Emmett stopped Lamas with a stunning one-punch knockout at UFC Fight Night Winnipeg in December 2017.
